The dishwasher is one of our kitchen appliances that make our lives a little easier. It can be quite frustrating when the dishes are not coming out as clean as we would like. Maybe the dishwasher is not the problem. Before calling an appliance repairman, try following these handy dishwasher tips for cleaner dishes.
Rinse most or all the food off your dishes prior to putting them in the dishwasher. Use warm water only, no soap, when rinsing. Even though you think you’ve rinsed all the soap off, you haven’t. This can cause suds in your dishwasher that can leave a film on your dishes. Food that is left on the dishes will usually end up clogging the pump, spray arms and drain lines whirlpool dishwasher repair pasadena.
Do not overload the dishwasher. Leave some room so that water from the spray arms can get to all the dishes. Never load large and tall items, like pots, pans, and cookie sheets, as they can block the spray arms from turning. Always wash the large and tall items by hand. If your dishwasher has a pop-up tower connected to the lower spray arm, make sure nothing is obstructing the opening in the lower rack where it pops up. If the opening is obstructed, your dishes in the top rack will not get cleaned properly.
Do not use too much dishwasher detergent. More is not better when it comes to dishwasher detergent. Fill the first cup all the way full. (this is the cup without a cover that drops into the dishwasher as soon as you close the door) The second cup is not necessary but if you want to put detergent in that one also, only fill it half way. If you use tablets or pouches, don’t put them in the soap cup. It works much better if you just lay the tablet or pouch on the bottom of the dishwasher under the lower rack. This gives the dishwasher more time to rinse out all the soap before the end of the cycle. I highly recommend using tablets or pouches.
When you are ready to start your machine, first turn on the hot water at the sink and wait till it gets as hot as it’s going to get. Then turn the water off and start your dishwasher. This puts hot water into the machine from the start. If you don’t do this, the tub could fill up with cold water because it’s usually a long way from the hot water heater to the kitchen. Cold water will not dissolve the soap or clean the dishes properly.
Finally, clean your dishwasher once a month using white vinegar or a product made for breaking up hard water deposits in dishwashers. If you follow these tips, I’m sure you’ll find much better results and cleaner dishes from your dishwasher. If you’re still having a problem, call an appliance repair service that’s honest and reputable.
